Brentford striker Scott Hogan netted his first goal of the season to give the Bees their second triumph of the new Championship season on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old scored midway through the first half - after Lewis MacLeod had seen his shot saved - to give head coach Dean Smith's men a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest, who had centre back Damien Perquis sent off late on.

The Bees enjoyed the best of the opportunities - despite Forest enjoying the lion's share of possession - with centre back John Egan, in particular, combining well with substitute Sam Saunders from dead ball situations.

Cheers, fellas: Striker Scott Hogan's teammates show what his strike against Nottingham Forest at Griffin Park on Tuesday meant to them

Although Smith's men were indebted to goalkeeper Daniel Bentley for a stoppage time save that stopped Britt Assomabalonga from netting an equaliser as Brentford were forced to defend for much of the second half.

It followed up Saturday's 2-0 triumph over Ipswich Town - thanks to two goals from summer recruit Egan - and means the Bees have now won their past four home encounters - their best sequence in the second tier since 1951.

Hogan's goal was his eighth in his past eight league appearances for the Bees.

"If you had offered us two wins from our first two home games before this week then we would have snapped your hand off," said Bentley.

"We started really well in the first half, but lost our way towards the end of the half.

"In terms of soaking up pressure - we couldn't get out of our half.

"In the end, we worked hard defended valiantly and came out on top."

Brentford head to Rotherham on Saturday.
