Crystal Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni is happy to play any part in the Eagles lifting the FA Cup.

The fans’ favourite has been at Selhurst Park since 2004 after making the move south from Scottish outfit Dundee.

Although he has only made two appearances this season, playing deputy to Wayne Hennessey, the Argentine wants to help his side overcome Manchester United on Saturday any way he can.

He said: “I always want to play a part. I’ve been playing a part for the past 12 years, so I always want to be part of it on the pitch.

“I feel I’m part of the team and I will do my best to help whoever is playing.

“If I have to carry the water, I’ll carry the water, it’s not a problem.

“This is about the team, about winning the FA Cup. It’s not about who is playing.”

He added: “Everyone is ready for the special occasion.

“Man United is Man United, but it’s a cup final, it’s a special match, so it doesn’t matter who the favourite is.

“We are all really fired up for it.”

Speroni cannot escape one personal accolade after he passed the club record for league appearances by a goalkeeper in Sunday’s defeat at Southampton.

The old record was held by John Jackson, who racked up 346 appearances between 1964 and 1973.

Now, the 36-year-old Speroni is just 12 appearances behind Jackson’s record of 388 in all competitions.

“If you asked me in 2004 when I signed for the club ‘Do you think you would be here today?’ I would probably have said ‘No chance’,” he said.

“I never counted the games, it kind of just happened.

“It’s a great achievement, especially when people put you in with the likes of John Jackson – goalkeepers of that calibre. It’s too much, I don’t feel like I should be in that list, but it’s great.”
