Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew says owners of Premier League football clubs are right to listen to fans’ protests over ticket prices.

Liverpool fans staged a walk out protest during the Reds’ draw with Sunderland on Saturday in protest against the hike in ticket prices to from £59 to £77.

The club’s owners have since scrapped the plan to increase prices, apologising for the “distress caused”.

In a joint statement they said: “The three of us have been particularly troubled by the perception that we don't care about our supporters, that we are greedy, and that we are attempting to extract personal profits at the club's expense. Quite the opposite is true."

Palace fans can pay anywhere between £42 and £80 for a category A game, and between £25 and £35 for a category B fixture.

Pardew said: “When the core fan-base are making these kinds of messages, we need to listen.

“It isn't just what happens on the pitch that makes the Premier League what it is. It's the atmosphere and the tension, and that comes from the fans.”

He added: “The owners of the football clubs need to really consider carefully that they don't lose the core supporters [through ticket prices].”
