Despite dominating the first half, Sutton United ended Saturday's FA Trophy third round game clinging on for the draw, but winger Ross Stearn was simply pleased to still be in the offing for a Wembley final.

The best chance of a wind-affected match fell to Stearn half an hour in, when Stuart Fleetwood beat Dan Beck and Sami El-Abd on the left-hand side before finding his opposite winger, but Stearn hit his shot well over the bar.

But, with Sutton United still in the hat for today's draw, Stearn was keen to look on the bright side ahead of Tuesday evening's replay.

“Firstly, we’re still in the tie,” Stearn said. “I think that’s a positive we can take out of today, but I think we should’ve probably won the game.

"We had a few good chances in the first half, myself included should’ve scored.

“It certainly wasn’t a good-looking football match out there today, but both sides battled well and probably 0-0 was a fair result, because they had a few chances second half.”

The draw means United will have to make the 100-plus-mile round trip to Sussex on Tuesday evening but, even with United focusing on promotion from the National League South, Stearn was unequivocal about the importance of the cup.

“The cup is very big for this club and we want to go on and see if we can get to Wembley,” Stearn said.

“It’s massive, especially when Wembley’s the prize at the end of it. How many times do you get to play at Wembley? Not very many and we’re only three games away now we’ve got a replay.”

Steart said he was targeting another home draw, having seen 1,258 turning out on Saturday, United's largest attendance since the opening day of the season.

He said: “I think any home tie will do. We’re very good at home at the minute, we’re playing on the pitch well, obviously apart from Saturday because of the wind but, apart from that, you look at the run we’ve been on, I can’t see anyone being a problem and I’m not really fussed who we get.”
