Sutton United boss Paul Doswell reckons the FA’s decision to replay the FA Trophy clash with Concord Rangers is the correct one.

Rangers were hauled in front of the FA after fielding in ineligible player, who also scored, in their 3-1 win over United in the third qualifying round on November 28.

Now the sides will go face to face again at Gander Green Lane on December 21, with the winners hosting Lowestoft in the first round proper on January 5.

The winner of that tie, will then host Curzon Ashton on January 16.

Doswell said: “I am very happy to be back in the competition, and it is the only real outcome that was possible.

A Sutton United front: Tougher tests lay ahead for United

“Concord beat us fairly and squarely in the first game, albeit with an ineligible player.

“I am not surprised at the decision because it was a genuine error. Concord did not set out to gain an advantage.”

He added: “I want to win this competition, and I’ve told the players if we can get through a couple of rounds, the financial rewards is huge for this club.

“However, my priority remains getting into the play-offs at the very least, and getting this team to the National Premier.”

Doswell is without the injured Dan Spence and Craig McAllister for this weekend’s visit of Maidenhead Town.
