AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley has invited teams to deliberately target striker Adebayo Azeez as it would unleash the rest of his forward line.

The 21-year-old former Charlton Athletic striker has been a constant thorn in the side of the opposition this season, and has featured in every league match so far.

His assist set up the Dons' second in the dying embers of the 2-0 victory over Barnet on Saturday, and he also has two goals to his name this season - however, Ardley wants the striker to get more attention from opposition defenders.

He said: “I really hope teams do target him, as normally it’s [Adebayo] Akinfenwa they go for and they start putting two players on him, and with Azeez running behind then they’ll have to think twice, meaning there’s more space for others to work with.

“I’ve been here three years now, and when I first came I was looking at the opposition because I thought they were better than us, but now I’m sure teams look at people like [Andy] Barcham, and know if you let him run he’ll cause you problems.

“Players like George Francomb will deliver great balls if given just a few inches, Akinfenwa is the strongest player in the league, Lyle Taylor is exceptional and can really finish as well.

“If we can get it together and keep or flow going then let the opposition target who they like and hopefully most certainly need to worry about us.”
