Carshalton Athletic midfielder Matt Males was one of another batch of players to be confirmed as a Robin last week - and he celebrated by doing some painting.

Males, now entering his third season at Colston Avenue, has been retained by new manager Matt Howard along with Adriano Moraes and Jordan Higgs, while forward Greg Andrews has been confirmed as joining from Whyteleafe.

Males signed his paperwork before pitching in with the renovations currently taking place at the Robins' home this month.

"I helped paint the iron support grids on one of the stands. The work going into all that, plus the new pitch, means the ground is looking phenomenal right now," said Males.

"I'm delighted to be staying here another season - I love the club and all the people connected to it. I just can't wait for the season to get started now."

Howard has been in charge at Carshalton for nearly two months and Males added the new boss has delivered one of the best pre-seasons he has ever experienced.

"We are being treated to some good sessions. We've worked lots on our fitness, but it has included using footballs so it has been enjoyable," he said.

"I'm feeling really sharp and I think the other boys would say the same."

Other new arrivals at Colston Avenue so far are Lee Hall, Adam Thompson and Lewis Gonsalves, and Males believes there is a good vibe coursing throughout the squad.

"We had some good spells last season but I think Matt has added some real extra quality to supplement what's already here.

"I'm optimistic we have the potential to really compete this season," he added.

Carshalton's pre-season fixtures continue with visits from Sutton United (July 28) and Merstham (August 1).
