Wandsworth sports development manager Peter Freeman admitted he was staggered after the borough’s youngsters won the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games Jubilee Trophy for the third consecutive year.
The side were in a strong position going into the weekend’s finals day at the Crystal Palace Sports Centre.
Gold medal performances in the tennis, male athletics and female football took the borough to a record points tally of 1,216.
Prior to the finals, Wandsworth had already won seven gold medals, including top prizes in the male and female volleyball, archery and male judo.
Freeman said: “It is fairly staggering. One year to the next when you’re planning, you’re not always quite sure where the points will come from or what the competition is going to be like.
“We’ve got strong sports, like the volleyball and judo that we traditionally do well, but there’s been some fantastic surprises.
“We won the girls’ football over the weekend and the archery too – they have really progressed in the past few years so it’s awesome.”
He added: “I am really chuffed for all the young people who have represented Wandsworth.
“Another year though, anything can happen. We all start with zero points again, but hopefully we’ll be in with a shout again next year.”
Wandsworth beat Richmond (1,133) into second, and Bexley (1,111) into third.
