Charlie Edwards insists he is ready to make a big statement in only his third professional featherweight bout at York Hall tonight (Thursday).

The 22-year-old fighter from Beddington faces Brett Fidoe (4-16-2) who, despite his lowly record, has never been knocked out in 22 previous contests.

Edwards makes the step up to six rounds for the first time tonight and he is determined to put on a show at Bethnal Green after technical knockout victories over Craig Derbyshire and Mikheil Soloninkini in his first two professional fights.

He said: “I have no doubt that I’ll be able to beat him over six rounds, but it would be a big statement to get the knockout as I know he’s never been stopped.

“He’s an experienced fighter and it’s a bit of a step up, but I’m in a great place right now and I’ve never felt fitter.

“I just can’t wait to put on a show in front of the fans at York Hall.”

The young boxer, who belongs to Barry Hearn’s Matchroom stable, believes the round increase from four to six will suit his style.

“I’m a long-time fighter so the more rounds the better,” he said.

“After three or four rounds I’m flying, it’s when I really get going and I can’t wait to start moving up to rounds of eight, 10 and 12.

“I know what level I’m at, I’m at my perfect weight of 8st 5lb, and I’m very confident going into the fight.”

The two time former ABA champion also says he is enjoying life as a professional having left the amateur ranks of the GB podium squad after six years in 2014.

He said: “I’m lucky to have a great sponsor and I’ve just moved into a new place, which is ideal for me.

“I’m at the gym every day, working hard and I’m loving being able to train full-time.”
