Director of rugby Conor O'Shea has backed centre Tom Casson to enjoy a top flight rugby career, despite stepping down to the Championship with Yorkshire Carnegie.

The 25-year-old signed a deal to move north this week 24 hours after the club confirmed the arrival of Wales international Jamie Roberts.

Casson made more than 60 appearances for the club after switching to the Stoop in 2010, and scored a try in Harlequins' LV= Cup final triumph over Sale Sharks in 2013.

"I have known Tom since he was 17 years old and wish him all the best for the future," said O'Shea.

“He remains an outstanding prospect and if he can get a good run of games with Yorkshire Carnegie, I have no doubt he will prove again that he has what it takes to make it at the highest level of the game.

"He is one of the good guys, whom I will miss on a personal level and I would like to thank him for everything he has contributed over the years to the success we have had.”

Casson added: "Winning the LV= Cup in 2013 was a stand-out moment for me as I won playing alongside some really close friends.

“I’m really excited to join Yorkshire Carnegie as it provides a new opportunity for me. I’m looking forward to being closer to my family and beginning a new challenge in my career.”
