The last time the London leg of the Diving World Series rolled around Georgia Ward was well and truly in the medals.

However, it was purely in a ceremonial basis as the former Crystal Palace Diving Club star of the future presented the winners with their silverware, and this time around she is keen to be on the receiving end.

The 2014 London leg of the Diving World Series saw Ward form part of the medal presentation ceremony, but since then she has gone from strength to strength – scoring a new personal best of 321.10 in finishing fifth at this year’s British Championships.

But she did not stop there, going on to claim 10m synchro bronze with Robyn Birch and mixed 10m synchro silver alongside new partner Matty Lee at the Grand Prix in Canada earlier this month.

The latter result was particularly impressive considering it was the first time the duo had competed in the new event together, and Ward admits it has given her plenty of confidence for the future.

And having left Crystal Palace Diving Club to train at the London Aquatics Centre, 19-year-old Ward is keen to prove there is no place like home when this year’s leg gets underway today (May 1).

“We had the British Championships a while ago and I was really happy with how they went as I got a new PB there which was good,” she said.

“I moved to London and started training with James and I was really nervous to see how my first competition would be but I was really happy with how it went.

“It is going really well so far. When I made the decision to move I was really overwhelmed and scared but everything has been going well so far.

“Getting the opportunity to present the medals in London at the World Series was great last year. Being there when the crowd was here and top divers you see what it is like.

“Looking back it is probably a good thing that I did that as it calmed my nerves a bit and while it will be different competing I feel better for that experience.”

While she now calls the London Aquatics Centre home, Ward has never competed in the iconic Olympic venue – something she is eager to change next month.

“I am really looking forward to the World Series,” she added.

“It is quite nerve racking as myself and Matty have never competed before at this level so it is quite scary but I am happy with how it has gone so far.

“The home crowd will be amazing. Looking at the London Olympics you saw everyone backing Tom Daley and that was great.

“I have never competed in a home pool before so that is going to really help me. I think I cope well with my nerves and I think they help me a bit so I think it should be OK.”
