Battersea's Cara Brown is lining up an attack on the Europa Cup next season after a week of highs and lows at the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships.

World Cup stars Dave Ryding and Alex Tilley graced the slopes of Tignes – and Brown proved she is set to follow in their footsteps.

But the 21-year-old did not leave the Championships entirely satisfied after failing to defend the Sir John Ritblat Victor Ludorum trophy, the award for the overall British winner.

That instead went to Max Baggio, who secured a hat-trick of British National titles last week, but Brown was not far behind in second place.

She won both National and Junior Downhill titles and, over the weekend, reigned supreme to clinch the British Junior Giant Slalom title.

And though it’s been a rollercoaster ride over the last week, Brown is eyeing a consistent start to her next campaign by impressing in the Europa Cup – which is just one tier down from the elite field in the FIS World Cup.

“I’ve got a few days off and then a few FIS races at France, which are usually quite tough at the end of the season,” she said.

“Hopefully I can enter a few more Europa Cup races next season, get my points down and maybe do a bit of Slalom.

“I definitely want to keep gaining experience in speed and I’d like to do Val D’Isere again, I just need to get my Downhill points a bit lower.

“I haven’t done any Europa Cup because the ones I’ve entered have all been cancelled – it’s a pretty tough competition but it’ll show where I am.

“I’m not expecting to go into it straight away and podium, but it would be nice to start it right at the beginning and then go for some good finishes.

“In last year’s British Championships I was a lot more consistent – I was consistently second, just behind Chemmy Alcott.

“The only thing that would keep me up at night knowing that I if were a tiny bit faster I would have got the title I wanted.”

Brown also finished third in the National Championship Giant Slalom race, and she admits that her searing second run – in which she topped World Cup skier Tilley – was one of the highlights of her week.

“I’ve never been faster than Alex before, unless she’s fallen over or something,” added Brown.

“I’m really happy with that – my coaches said win the second run and we’ll let you off!

“It’s days like that when even though you’re not on the top step of the podium, you know it’s a good day and you’re making progress.”
