Roxy Proctor may only be 12 years old, but the number one schools judo star is already showing the confidence of an Olympic champion.
The Cheam youngster triumphed in the U44kg category at the British Schools Championships in Sheffield earlier this month, and she also won the Midlands Regionals in January, despite competing against opponents in a higher weight category.
Proctor is not just a lover of judo, she also enjoys football and swimming, but she knows judo will have to take priority if she is to become an Olympic champion.
She said: “I’m trying to be the best that I can be.
“I do love other sports, but I’ll have to drop them because I can’t do more than one sport if I want to go to the Olympics.”
Despite her young years, Proctor has a down to earth approach to her judo accomplishments.
She said: “I’ve been training since I was seven, and I’m now 12, so the gold medal has been a long time coming.
“I want to continue and improve as I go along.”
The gold medal winner’s family is very proud of her, and her dad said: “It was an impressive win.
“She was very composed, and performed really well – we’re very proud of her.”
Proctor was not the only medalist from Cheam High School as Elise Jeffries won silver in the U70kg class.
Winner: Roxy Proctor
