Carshalton Athletic wrote a new page in their history books last weekend, but goalkeeper Jack Eden is struggling to look beyond the same old story.

The Robins went down 2-0 at Guernsey on Saturday in their first official league match outside the UK.

However, their vile away form means Rob Scantlebury’s men have gone nine games without picking up a win.

Moreover, after three trips on the bounce, the Robins face two more away days at Faversham this weekend, and Redhill on March 7.

Saturday’s defeat on the Channel Islands, which included a red card for Matt Males, leaves Carshalton rooted in the middle of the Ryman Division One South, but Eden reckons they deserve more from their travels.

He said: “It’s clear our results away from home need improving, but what makes it more frustrating is that we aren’t playing badly.

“Even with 10 men we competed well, but we didn’t match their ability to turn possession into goal threats.”

Guernsey were one up before the game’s big talking point – the hosts capitalised on a poor clearance and the attack ended with Males handling a shot off the line.

A Guernsey player rammed in the rebound, but the referee awarded a spot kick and sent off the make-shift defender.

Eden, who went on to save the penalty, said: “I didn’t see Matt’s ‘save’, but he could give me a run for my money by all accounts.

“But it was a shame to lose him. Players on both sides asked for the goal to be given and the game to carry on 11-a-side, but the ref made up his mind and that was that.”

The trip to Faversham this weekend is Carshalton's fourth away game in a row and it looks a daunting prospect as high-flying Town have only lost twice at home all season.

"It think we have to have a positive mental attitude going into Saturday," said Eden.

"We need to forget about the last three games and play to our strengths because we are capable of beating anyone on our day."

The Robins kick-off at Faversham at 3pm this Saturday.
