The sporting stars of tomorrow can now register to be part of a tournament pitting youngsters from all over Surrey against each other.

The P&G Surrey Youth Games takes place on June 20 and 21, and Team Epsom & Ewell is now looking to add to their squad.

The team is open to people who live or go to school in the borough, are aged between seven and 16 years old, and are at least sub-county level in their chosen sport.

Councillor Jan Mason, chairman of the leisure committee, said: "The P&G Surrey Youth Games is a fun and inclusive way of encouraging people to take part in competitive sport.

"We hope this year more young people will register to take part to represent the borough at this prestigious sporting event.

“It is a great opportunity for young people to try a new sport, or to improve their skills by taking part in high quality free coaching sessions."

She added: "It is a great weekend for everyone and the young people really enjoy themselves, make new friends and get to try a sport that they may not have had a go at before.”

After registering, youngsters will be invited along to trials and, during these trials, they have the opportunity to have a go at other sports.

Sports on offer range from well-known pursuits such as basketball, netball and tennis, to the more obscure boccia and lacrosse.

The trials and training for the sports will be run by qualified coaches with links to clubs, and last year 211 young people represented the borough.

Anyone interested in the games but unable to compete is invited to volunteer to help the running of the event.
