London Rowing Club’s Imogen Walsh confirmed her status as a world beater after she and partner Kat Copeland won gold at the Rowing World Cup in Switzerland last weekend.

Last weekend’s win came on the back of gold at the opening World Cup regatta in France, as well as a bronze medal at the European championships, in June.

Walsh, 30, linked up with Olympic gold medallist Copeland in the lightweight doubles sculls ahead of the Euros in Belgrade.

And now she believes the duo is thriving although there is still some way to go yet until they are racing at their peak.

She said: “I feel that as a crew we have a lot now to build on, but there is still pressure on us.

“It’s a nice pressure to be under when people expect you to do well.

“I am really happy with today's race because I think we had more pressure on us than in France and we still did well despite that pressure.”

The pair beat Australia into second place and Canada into third to pick up the gold medal.

Walsh’s clubmates Jessica Eddie and Mark Aldred were also among the medals winning bronze in the women’s eight and men’s lightweight fours respectively.

Eddie, who won bronze in France, and her crew finished four seconds behind winners Canada, and just 0.24 seconds behind Romania in silver.

It was not so close for Aldred, who also won bronze in France, as his crew finished six seconds off winners New Zealand, and four second off runners up Denmark.
