Crystal Palace Football Club’s legendary chief steward has passed away.

The club announced the death of Bromley’s Les Barnes, 60, over the weekend. He had been diagnosed with cancer last year.

Mr Barnes worked for the south London club for over 40 years, starting out on the turnstiles and working his way up.

Hundreds of colleagues and fans have joined friends and family in paying tribute to the Eagles’ veteran, who is survived by his partner, two stepchildren, and four grandsons.

Communications manager at Palace, Terry Byfield, honoured the stalwart.

A memorial website has been set up with photos and stories of Mr Barnes. He was born on April 3, 1954.
