Graveney & Malory Eagles are celebrating a remarkable achievement after being crowned national U16 volleyball champions.
Having reaching last week’s final, the Wandsworth-based school team faced Tameside from Manchester – champions for the past 16 years.
However, despite dropping 2-1 down in sets, and trailing 21-16 in the fourth, Graveney fought back to win 25-22.
The tie-break fifth set – the first to 15 – was an edgy affair but Graveney prevailed to win 15-13 and take the trophy.
The team: Gaia Canevari, Grace Thomas, Izzy Wocial, Angel White, Nikita Brown, Paulina Dybich, Brenda Prado-Gondim, Gaia Thorel, Kay-Lee Gouw, Rebekah Young, Zoe Forester and Jessica Cleveland. Coaches: Carlos Johnson, Jessie Forester.
