Former Blackburn Rovers defender David May says the lure of the Premier League is behind Scott Dann’s proposed move to Crystal Palace.

May, a Champions League Cup winner with Manchester United, admitted that Dann was a key part of Rovers season, but the club are doing what is best for their man.

Dann is believed to be having a medical at the Palace training ground right now.

May said: “Rovers are ninth in the table, five points off the play offs and maybe Gary Bowyer [the manager] has someone coming in as a replacement for Scott.

“But he is a big part of the Rovers back four, so it has to be the lure of the Premier League that is behind this move.”

He added: “Rovers could be mean and tell Scott that they want him to stay and help them push to promotion this season, and if it doesn’t happen, then you can go next year.

“But that is unlikely. Tony Pulis is an excellent manager, and Scott will flourish under him.”
