Wimbledon men's skipper Ben Dando says the team will now push on for Europe after winning promotion to the Premier Division.

A 2-1 win over Sheffield Hallam on Sunday was enough for Wimbledon to top the championship play-off table by virtue of a superior goal difference.

Wimbledon had started the play-off round robin with a morale-boosting 3-0 win over Cardiff last weekend.

However, a 5-3 defeat to Southgate on Saturday, to set up a nervy final match on Sunday at Reading Hockey Club.

But goals from Johhnie Kinder and Mike Shaw ensured the win over Sheffield and promotion to the Premier Division.

Dando said: “We’re absolutely ecstatic. We pulled it together and it’s been a fantastic day for us.

"We went into the Southgate game feeling confident so it was hard to take the loss, but to come back in the way we did was testament to our team and the season we’ve had."

He added: “We’re a really ambitious club, and we’re looking to push for Europe in the future.

"We want to build on the success we’ve had in the past few years.”
