Wimbledon coach Ben Marsden says the race for promotion to the Men’s Premier Division is hotting up after a perfect weekend.
Ben Hawes bagged a hat-trick as Dons saw off Teddington 3-1 on Saturday, while leaders Holcombe fell to a shock 3-2 defeat at home to bottom club Indian Gymkhana.
Holcombe’s lead at the top has been cut to three points, and Dons’ superior goal difference could see them return to the summit when the two meet in a fortnight.
Marsden said: “We have to continue winning, but now the title is in our hands. We must not think too far ahead of Richmond this weekend, but if we can beat them and then beat Holcombe, we’re top again.
“We looked sharp against Teddington, we played well. Over Christmas we asked ourselves a lot of questions and we answered them.”
Meanwhile, the Ladies lost 3-1 to Harleston Magpies leaving them eighth in the Conference East – they go to Chelmsford this weekend.
