Local link: Orpington-born, Claire went to school in Petts Wood and is a former member of the Millwall Lionesses.

Career high: Claire has represented England at U17, U19, U20 and U23 level and made her debut for the senior side in the 2010 European Championship clash against Austria.

Sporting background: Orpington-born Claire attended St James’ Primary School in Petts Wood and Colfe’s School in Lee as a youngster, beginning her football career with Blackheath-based Kent Magpies.

She broke into the Millwall Lionesses’ first team at the age of just 14 before joining Chelsea in 2007.

Claire graduated with an economics degree from the Loughborough University last summer.

She says: I feel so honoured and proud to be selected, I’m lost for words. So excited.

We say: Playing in front of a home crowd should hopefully inspire Team GB to get out of a tough looking group, which includes Brazil and Cameroon.

If they do progress to the knockout stages GB will fancy their chances of medal success.
