Career High - Retaining the world title in the Team Pursuit in 2009.

Sporting Background - The former Nonsuch High School student belongs to the Horizon Fitness Racing Team and won national titles in both road and track cycling as a youngster.

Her talent continued to develop as an adult winning gold medals in the team pursuit event at the 2008 UCI World Cup in Manchester and then again at the 2011 UEC European championships in Apeldoorn.

She says - "It makes it even more special that it will be held so close to home - this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I can’t wait to get racing."

We say - The borough's best chance of a gold medal. Team GB are favourites for the team pursuit but will face tough competition from the Australians.

Career High - Made Olympic début in Team GB opener against Senegal coming on for the last ten minutes for Craig Bellamy

Sporting Background - Southampton midfielder, son of former Wimbledon legend Alan Cork. Cork has 13 England U21 caps to his name and switched to the Saints from Chelsea - where he started his career - at the start of last season, having enjoyed successful loan spells at Scunthorpe United, Coventry City, Watford and Burnley.

He says - On the Olympic build up so far - "It has been immense. We have had a great week and it couldn’t have gone any better really. It has been amazing, not just for me, but for everyone else as well."

We say - Great to see him top off a great year at Southampton with his Team GB début in the opening game. If they get through the group stage, GB could be in with a medal chance.

Name - Scott Overall

Age - 29

Event - Marathon

Career High - Scott was officially named to the GB Olympic team having achieved the "A-Standard" at the Berlin marathon. The Olympic marathon on August 2012 will be Scott's biggest race to date.

Sporting background - Scott has been running since the age of 14 where at Orleans Park School in Twickenham he made his first steps into the competitive world of athletics. Scott gained a running scholarship to the USA in 2004. He attended Butler University from 2004-2007 and during his time here he gained his first GB vest in 2005, where he finished 6th in the 5000m at the European U23 Championships in 2005.

He says - "Like I have been saying all along however, is it is just another race, it is still 26.2 miles and I have to treat it like that. The preparation, the training, and everything else has been geared towards running a marathon, and at the end of the day that is what I have to do. It just happens to be the Olympic Marathon."

We say - Scott will do well to get on the podium with runners from Ethiopia and Kenya looking very strong, but with the home crowd behind him, who knows.

Name - Andy Turner

Age - 31

Event - 110m hurdles

Career High - World bronze medallist 2011, European and Commonwealth champion 2010, double Olympian, world record holder for 200m hurdles

Sporting Background - After giving up a career as a footballer, Andy made his Team GB début in 2003 and has been UK number 1 in the 110 hurdles ever since. Andy recorded impressive wins in the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the 2010 European Championships and produced his personal best of 13.22 seconds at the Diamond league Athletics meeting in 2011.

He says : "I’m confident going into the Olympics and I know what I need to be doing. I know I’m in decent condition but it’s about not making mistakes, which is what I am making at the moment. Sooner or later it will click and I’m feeling confident ahead of the Olympics, I just need to make sure it all goes right on the day."

We say - Unfancied at he World Championships in Daegu and still managed to pick up a bronze medal, so in front of a home crowd, who knows. The third fastest British hurdler in history.

Name - Matt Holland

Age - 23

Event - Water Polo

Location - Stratford. (It is the first dedicated Water Polo venue to be built for an Olympic Games)

Career Best - won the Top Goalkeeper award at the 2009 Mithat Hantel Memorial Tournament in Istanbul. Currently playing in France for Aix en Provence Natation

Career High - Made Team GB début in Beijing in 2008

Sporting Background - Graduated from Leeds University with a degree in Sports Science. He was part of the British Team that finished fourth in the European B Championships in Sweden.

He says - "This means everything to me. It is the biggest thing I have ever done".

We say - With favourites Hungary and USA in their group he will be kept very busy. Holland will need to be in top form to make sure Team GB are in with a chance.
