A man was viciously attacked with a stick by a gang of teen girls as two PCSOs looked on, a great-grandmother has claimed.

Astonished Ann Ward rushed to help the 55-year-old man who was assaulted in broad daylight in Ravensbury Park, Morden.

The 59-year-old was forced to step in because the police community support officers did nothing, she said.

The man, named locally as Philip Shaw, was reportedly cowering on theground as the trio hit him and tried to take his bag before running off.

He is said to have suffered bruising, cuts to his nose and around his eye and a broken finger.

Ann said the PCSOs called for help but did not attempt to intervene.

"It was disgustingcany other men would have stepped in to help,"

Ann told London Lite."They looked like they just could not be bothered. They said they were there just to report the crime to the police and take notes."

The Met Police launched an investigation after Ann complained but did not confirm if the two PCSOs have been suspended.

A Met spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that at approximately 3.10pm on October 29 a 55-year-old man was attacked by three teenagers inRavensbury Park, Merton."

She said two teenage girls were arrested in connection with the incident and a third girl handed herself in to police.

All three were bailed to return in December.
