Merton Council hopes to reduce inequalities between people living in the east and west of the borough.
At a forthcoming meeting of the council’s Joint Consultative Committee with Ethnic Minority Organisations, the panel will hear a progress report on the Equality and Community Cohesion Strategy which runs from 2017 to 2021.
The four year strategy aims to “narrow the gap in outcomes between residents, in particular between the east and west of the borough”.
Since it was put in place the report states the proposed development of the Wilson Health and Wellbeing Campus in Mitcham would reduce health inequalities in the east of the borough.
It was given approval by NHS England in December 2017 but work on the site has not yet started.
The report states: “Key achievements to note include an increase in library usage by 11 to 16 year olds from a CR4 postcode [Mitcham].
“A 20 percent increase of learners enrolled on employability or family learning courses coming from deprived wards in the East of the borough.”
The meeting will take place at Merton Civic Centre on Wednesday June 13 from 7.15pm.
