A rough completion date for Mitcham's new Lidl has been announced.

Late last month, construction of the new supermarket began at the site of the former Halfords store in Streatham Road.

The company has now said that the works will likely take about eight months, with the "view to opening the store in early 2019."

Lidl UK’s regional head of property, Chris Young-Wootton, was excited to finally take the next step after planning permission was granted by Merton Council in January this year.

“There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and it’s great that we are now in a position to break the ground and start the build," he said.

"We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far, and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we enter this next phase of the development.”
