A "mice infestation" in a Mitcham mother's home has her concerned for the health of her nine-month old daughter.

Brenda Walugembe lives in Saxonbury Close and says Clarion Housing are not doing enough to fix the problem, all because of a dirty plate and a vegetable rack.

"I hear them in the ceiling," she said.

"My kitchen is very small and apparently because I left a plate out that it's me causing the mice to come.

"I also have a vegetable rack but it is kept very clean

"Basically they are implying that the mice are coming because I keep vegetables in a vegetable rack."

She said the problem started in October last year, not long after her daughter was born.

"I've sent numerous letters and complaints but nothing is being done, Ms Walugembe said.

"I have a nine-month old daughter and she is having to live with mice above her, it just isn't right.

"I welcome them to come back and see for themselves that my house is neat and tidy."

A spokeswoman for Clarion Housing Group said previous attempts to catch any mice living in the home have so far been unsuccessful.

"After receiving complaints about rodents in Ms Welugembe’s property, a number of visits have been carried out by our pest control contractor, Orbis, since February 2018," she said.

"Only one mouse has been found during these visits and although bait was left, it hadn’t been taken due to foodstuffs, refuse bags and plates being left out around the property.

"We also carried out our own visit earlier this month, where no further evidence of mice was found.

"However we have agreed to install additional bait boxes on Tuesday, May 22 as a gesture of goodwill."
