The Wimbledon Village house of late author Brian Sewell is set to be redeveloped into nine "luxury" homes.
This comes after planning permission was granted to West Eleven by Merton Council for the "refurbishment and additional development" of Caley House in Leopold Road.
Of the nine homes that will be created as part of the development, five will be within the existing house, with a further four built around the garden area.
CEO and founder of West Eleven, Will Herrmann, said: "We’re delighted to have been granted planning permission for Caley House and are looking forward to beginning work on the project as soon as possible.
"For West Eleven, this is a chance for us to create unique and luxurious properties in one of the most famous places in London and make a real architectural mark to the area.”
In a planning document attached to the application, it said a great deal of thought was put into keeping the building in line with the rest of the area.
"The design of the new development has been thoughtfully considered to sensitively respond to its setting, incorporating a subservient height and scale to both the main structure, and to the adjacent garage extension," it said.
"The new structure also incorporates sympathetic yet legibly modern building materials."
