A 22-year-old who assaulted a man in Morden before robbing him of his bank card and £270 has been jailed for more than four years.

Kye Joseph Stephenson, of no fixed abode, attacked the victim in Bishopsford Road by punching and kicking him to the floor.

The perpetrator of the assault asked him, who had just visited a cash machine, for a cigarette, where he was going, and if he could walk with him.

It was following this that the incident occurred on a quiet footpath nearby.

He threatened the man with further violence if he reported it to the police, but a member of the victim’s family reported it to the police which led to his arrest.

Stephenson pleaded guilty to robbery at Croydon Crown Court and received four years and three months in prison on March 19.
