A novella by Leo Tolstoy will premiere at Merton Arts Space year.

Attic Theatre Company has announced dates for The Death of Ivan Ilyich, by Stephen Sharkey.

The production will be the first for new artistic director Jonathan Humphreys. It is the second production the company has produced for Merton Arts Space in Compton Road.

Mr Humphreys said: "The Death of Ivan Ilyich is one of the greatest novella’s ever written. On first hearing about the book I thought - there's a show in this. On reading it I was convinced.

"What we are making is a deceptively simple show for one actor. It’ll be an intoxicating, innovative and enthralling play about life, death and what comes after.

"We want to transport the audience to 19th century Russia in an intimate and enticing way, drawing them into this moving and life changing story. It’ll be a pure theatrical experience like no other."
