New mums in Wimbledon and across south-west London have a unique new method of getting back into shape while bonding with their babies.

Vern Hill, creator of the CARiFiT (short for Cardio and resistance intervals) exercise programme is giving new mothers a way to shed pounds and keep their kids close at the same time.

After developing it two years ago, Vern has spent the past year teaching the medically approved post-natal fitness class in venues across south-west London.

Now mums in 17 countries are using the online training programme.

Vern said that the main benefit for new mothers of CARiFiT over other exercise programmes is that (along with providing some extra weight) they don't risk feeling separation anxiety.

CARiFiT is designed for mothers with babies from six weeks to nine months old and allows for the use of any carrier as long as it follows the TICKS guidelines (Tight, In view at all times, Close enough to kiss, Keep the chin off the chest and Supported back).

While some new mums may feel pressured into getting back into shape right after giving birth, Vern's advice is not to rush.

He said: “There's a lot of pressure nowadays to snap back into shape after having a baby.

“It's a really special time. Enjoy it, take your time.

"You'll know when you're ready to return to exercise and when you are, we'd love to see you at a CARiFiT class.”
