A review into the safety of Merton's social housing is underway, according to a statement by Clarion Housing Group.

The assessment will be carried out on all tower blocks of and over six storeys. This comes after Downing Street has said that combustible cladding has been found on seven high-rise blocks of flats in four local authority areas in England.

Prime Minister Theresa May ordered an emergency review of fire safety at 4,000 tower blocks across Britain.

A spokesperson for Clarion said: "The safety our residents in their homes continues to be our priority and we were deeply saddened by the tragic events at Grenfell Tower last week and our thoughts are with all those affected.

"Following this we are undertaking a detailed review of all our residential buildings of six storeys and more, including those in Merton.

"Our approach to fire safety, as always, will be guided by the fire authorities and any new advice offered by the Department of Communities and Local Government."

Merton Council sold all of its social housing stock to Circle Housing Merton Priory in 2010. The housing association merged with Affinity Sutton to become Clarion Housing Group in 2016.
