AFC Wimbledon will travel up to Glanford Park, north Lincolnshire, to face Scunthorpe United on the first day of the new season, it has been announced.

The club will be hoping to break a four-year barren run of having not won on the opening day of the season since 2012.

On that day they defeated Chesterfield 1-0, but have since drawn twice and lost twice with last year ending in a 3-1 defeat to Walsall at the Bescot Stadium.

When these two teams met last season, the Dons lost 2-1 in the month of August before avenging the defeat later on in February by the same score.

With three additions to the squad that include Nik Tzanev from Brentford and Kwesi Appiah from Crystal Palace, new additions to the squad hope to improve on last season’s 15th-place finish.

Other key dates include Portsmouth away at Fratton Park on Boxing Day and Bury at home on the last day of the season.
