South Western Trains has signed off an order for 90 new trains for services into west London.
The trains are part of a bid to increase much-needed extra seats for rail services into Waterloo. The new fleet will be maintained at Wimbledon depot.
They will increase capacity during peak times by 46 per cent, South Western say.
Free wifi, charging points, air conditioning and new information screens will all feature on the new carriages, that will come into service mid-2019. The trains will be capable of 100mph, will contribute to reduced journey times, and are highly energy efficient.
All trains will be in service by the end of 2020.
The new train plans were part of a winning bid by franchise operators FirstGroup and MTR, which will take over the rail network from August of this year.
