A course is being launched for people with diabetes in Merton to tackle low mood, stress and anxiety.

Locals that live with diabetes are invited to a six-week Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) programme run by the NHS service Improving Access to Psychological Therapies.

It will be held at Cricket Green Medical Centre in Mitcham.

Around 41 per cent of people with diabetes experience anxiety and stress which can affect blood sugar levels, and cause symptoms similar to depression, such as fatigue.

The announcement coincides with Diabetes Week, a national campaign to raise awareness of the condition.

Merton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) clinical lead for mental health, Dr Andrew Otley, said: "Patients with diabetes will find this course useful in understanding their condition and it will give them positive techniques use in their daily lives."
