Jasper to try and win seat as a Lambeth MP

Disgraced former mayoral aide Lee Jasper is attempting to become a London MP.

Ken Livingstone's former race adviser, who was revealed to live in a £90 a week council house in Clapham last December, said he has been asked to challenge Vauxhall MP Kate Hoey for her seat in Parliament by members of the Labour Party.

Mr Jasper quit his job after the Evening Standard revealed he had sent emails of a sexual nature to mother-of-three Karen Chouhan - the head of an organisation which received funding from City Hall.

But while many thought his departure would spell the end of his political career, it looks like Mr Jasper is trying to bounce back by standing to become an MP.

Labour Ms Hoey caused an outcry among her party recently after pledging to take an advisory role with Conservative Boris Johnson if he won the mayoral election.

"I've been approached to say whether or not it would be something I would consider to stand as an MP, particularly in Vauxhall," Mr Jasper told BBC London Radio.

"I think Kate Hoey is having a difficult time given her stance during the election. I'm considering it, the options are there. I would stand for the Labour party.

"I think that I've got a contribution to make in relation to public office, I've always felt that.

"I'm committed to public services, I'm committed to trying to improve the life of those who face more challenges and difficulties in the city."

Mr Jasper was linked to many groups given millions of pounds in grants by City Hall which then did little or nothing in return, including Brixton Base which he was the patron of.

He denied the controversy surrounding the funding had contributed to Mr Livingstone's defeat in last Thursday's elections.

Good luck with that Mr Jasper, will Ken be financing your campaign or will you be squandering other peoples money the same as you did when working at the GLA?
