Two half-brothers who are rowing the Atlantic Ocean have received support from a triple Olympic gold medallist and quadruple world champion in Putney this week.
Novice rowers Jude Massey, 18, and Greg Bailey, 27, were training in Putney Embankment but were greeted by retired British rower Sir Andrew Triggs Hodge on Monday (16 October).
The two are getting ready before they set off on their unsupported 3,000 mile journey across the Atlantic Ocean in a 20-foot boat.
They are aiming to raise £100,000 for the British Skin Foundation’s skin cancer research in memory of their stepfather and father, Peter Massey.
Mr Triggs Hodge said: “Good luck Jude and Greg, and congrats on taking on such an epic challenge!
“I hope in every way it is a success, both in raising money for skin cancer research and awareness of such an important cause.”
The half-brothers were inspired by their father’s love of the sea and want to raise funds after Mr Massey passed away in 2015 from basal cell carcinoma after a 16-year battle.
Their cause has also received support from explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE, competitive sailor Sir Ben Ainslie and Bear Grylls.
