Battersea MP Marsha de Cordova has been appointed the shadow minister for disabled people, it has been announced.
The Labour politician, who was elected into her position at the general election in June, replaces Marie Rimmer.
Ms De Cordova has undertaken the role as of Monday (October 9) this week.
She said: “It is an honour to be appointed to this role, an area I have dedicated my professional life to but [is] also deeply personal to me.
“I want to use my position to make sure we have a decent social security system for our disabled citizens, that we reduce the employment gap and that we make sure Brexit is not used as an excuse to roll back the rights of disabled people.”
Marsha was born with nystagmus, an eye condition that produces involuntary eye movement and causes severe visual impairment, but says she ‘hopes to be a voice for the many disabled people who are struggling under the current Government’.
