The heat has hit the capital at full blast this past week, with yesterday being on record as the hottest day of the year thus far at 32C.

What better way to cool off than to paddle around in some of south London’s best outdoor pools and splash parks?

We have made your choice just a little bit easier by listing the best that we could find, so that you spend less time on Google and more time in the water.

This list, in no particular order.

1. Wavelengths Leisure Centre

Your Local Guardian:

Located on Griffin Street in the heart of Deptford, south London, this is a great family-friendly place for the kids to enjoy the twists and turns of the huge flumes above the pools.

2. Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre

Your Local Guardian:

This centre is on Chiswick High Road, just over the River Thames, and caters to anyone and everyone is a classic go-to place for people in Brentford.

3. Dulwich Public Baths

Your Local Guardian:

Opened in 1892, it is understood to be London’s oldest public bath in continuous operation, and will have served the public for 125 years this coming Sunday.

It was last refurbished in June 2011 to accommodate to the public with a state-of-the-art main swimming pool and changing rooms, and sits on Crystal Palace Road, SE22.

4. Brockwell Lido

Your Local Guardian:

Located in Brockwell Park, Herne Hill, this 49m pool has been around since July 1937 before being closed in 1990.

The public campaigned for its re-opening in 1994 and has been a popular place too cool off ever since.

5. Wimbledon Sprinkler Park

Your Local Guardian:

With an interactive splash pad and a huge six paddling pools for everyone to enjoy, it is one of several facilities in Wimbledon Park which include football pitches, tennis courts, play areas and crazy golf.

It is one of south London’s ‘best-kept secrets’, according to Net Mums, and it might just be the perfect place for you this summer.

6. North Sheen Paddling Pool

Part of the North Sheen Recreation Ground on Dancer Road in Kew, Richmond, it boasts two extensive playgrounds and a gorgeous scenery alongside its children’s paddling pool.

7. Hampton Pool

This is one of the very few open swimming areas in London that is, not only heated, but also often open 365 days of the year.

Managed by YMCA London South West, it was first opened in 1922 and has a huge 36m main pool, with two slides, and a small pool for children.

8. Danson Splash Park

Your Local Guardian:

A very popular public park in Bexleyheath, it has a vast range of facilities available to the people of Bexley with a great atmosphere and scenery.

Part of Danson Park, it is located within Danson Park, DA6.

9. Tooting Bec Lido

Your Local Guardian:

Wandsworth is home to the largest swimming pool by area in the United Kingdom, with a whopping 91.44m in length and being 30.18m wide.

There is room for everyone in Tooting Bec to cool off in this pool, located in Tooting Bec Common.

10. Charlton Lido

Your Local Guardian:

Perhaps the most controversial lido on the list, it has been the subject of many campaigns and improvements over the years.

With a huge 50m outdoor heated pool, it has been consistently ranked among the best lidos in London.

It sits on Shooters Hill Road in Hornfair Park, SE18.
