A half a million pound upgrade of tennis facilities across Wandsworth has been completed.

All Star Tennis, which manages 28 courts on Wandsworth Common, Tooting Common, King George’s Park, Wandsworth Park, Furzedown Rec in Tooting and Leader’s Gardens in Putney, invested the large sum to improve facilities across the board.

All the courts at these six venues have been resurfaced and upgraded, while those at King George’s Park could soon be floodlit, which would offer additional playing opportunities for residents.

The council’s sports and leisure spokesman Councillor Jonathan Cook said: “This is great news for tennis lovers in Wandsworth.

“This is significant investment in better playing facilities which is being provided at no cost whatsoever to council tax payers.

“Raising standards here will help tennis players of all ages to really develop their skills at the sport and hopefully encourage others to start playing the game for the first time.”

All Star Tennis co-founder Ben White said: “We hope to see even more players enjoying their time on courts across the borough.

“This investment aims to encourage high quality public tennis to flourish across the borough.”
