Bouncer Levi Bellfield admitted he was at the scene of the attack on Irma Dragoshi, the Old Bailey heard.
The court heard when Bellfield was arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of Kosovan national Irma Dragoshi, the 39-year-old admitted in a police interview that he had been at the scene.
In the interview, read out in court by Detective Constable Gary Bellingham, Bellfield admitted to police he was in his car near the bus stop where Mrs Dragoshi was attacked, but claimed he had nothing to do with the incident.
He told police his colleague had left the car to try to steal a woman's handbag.
Bellfield said he had no idea his colleague was planning to do this.
The court heard how Bellfield had offered to give a sample of DNA and to take part in an identity parade with relation to the attack on Mrs Dragoshi on December 15, 2003.
The court had earlier heard how Mrs Dragoshi was left with a lump to her head that was bigger than her hand after she was attacked from behind while waiting for a bus in Old Bath Road, Longford, near Heathrow.
Her husband Astrit today told the court he had been at the couple's home in Hounslow when his wife phoned him from the bus stop. It was during this phone call that Mrs Dragoshi was allegedly attacked by Bellfield.
Mr Dragoshi told the court how scared he had been to hear his wife screaming on the other end of the phone.
He said: "She said 'I'm in a lot of pain'. That's what she was always repeating. 'I'm in pain, I'm in pain, I'm in pain.'"
The court also heard how the doctor who examined Mrs Dragozi in A&E noted that her injuries were consistent with a blow to the head with a blunt instrument.
But when cross-examined by defence barrister William Boyce QC, the doctor, Rabmawaz Khan, said it was also possible that the injury was consistent with hitting a hard flat surface, such as a pavement.
Bellfield, of West Drayton, is charged with murdering Hampton teenager Marsha McDonnell and French student Amelie Delegrange on Twickenham Green in 2004.
He also faces further charges of attempting to murder Kate Sheedy and Irma Dragoshi and the false imprisonment and kidnapping of Anna-Maria Rennie. He denies all the charges.
The trial continues.
