Three vehicle pile up as car falls off tow truck
Crash scene: The bus, car and tow truck in Battersea Park Road
Crash scene: The bus, car and tow truck in Battersea Park Road

A car has fallen off the back of a tow truck and crashed into a bus in Battersea.

Eyewitnesses at the scene in Battersea Park Road, at the junction with Bullen Street, reported a car falling off the back of a pick up truck at around 10.10am this morning.

Karen, a resident who lives close to the scene, said the car slipped off the back, causing the pick up truck to fall on its side. The car and bus then smashed into a bus which was sat stationary at a bus stop.

She said a bus stop is now holding up the bus, a red vehicle and the tow truck.

"The passengers look like they have got off the bus ok. There are lots of ambulances around," Karen said. She added: "The emergency services can't move anything and the fire men are at the scene looking for spillages. The bus stop is holding everything up - I don't know how."

A police spokeswoman said the pick up truck may have hit a bridge, causing the car to fall off. She said road closures are in place in Falcon Road and Latchmere Road. Buses are also on diversion.

London Ambulance Service said three ambulances, a fast response car and two units from the hazardous response team have been sent to the scene.

A spokeswoman said there have been no serious injuries and no-one has been admitted to hospital.

It will be interesting to see what the police will make of all this. I hope the guardian will update the story as things progress.
