A 15-year-old girl was left badly shaken after being assaulted in an Ashford graveyard.

The victim was walking through the graveyard in Church Lane at around 11.15pm on June 29 when she was approached by a man.

The man, described as black or of mixed race, grabbed her and pulled her to the floor, but she managed to struggle free.

Her attacker ran off in the direction of the monument on High Street.

Officers say the man is believed to be about 6ft 5ins, 35, and of muscular build. He was wearing a light coloured hoody, a dark cap and frameless glasses.

Detective Constable John Hobbs said: "This was a random and frightening assault on girl which left her extremely distressed. Fortunately incidents of this nature are rare in Spelthorne but when offences such as this do occur they are treated extremely seriously by police.

"I would appeal to any witnesses in the area at the time that recognise this description to come forward."
