A 24-year-old has been jailed for 15 years for an attack that crippled his victim.

And officers are still hunting for a second man in connection with the attack.

Leon Russell of Lyham Road, Brixton Hill was convicted at the Old Bailey today of the attempted murder of Tony Woodbridge, a 26-year-old who, as a result of multiple gunshot wounds, will spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

The court heard how Russell, a cannabis dealer, drove Mr Woodbridge and a friend to a house in South London for a raid on a safe.

Giving evidence Russell said the group had been planning to target 32 blocks of heroin in the safe.

But the men whose drugs they had stolen wanted the heroin back the court heard.

Russell decided to make an exchange through his friend Shaun Sutton in order to escape a revenge attack.

Sutton heard people were after Russell and jurors were told that Mr Woodbridge had been bragging about the raid.

Mr Woodbridge refused to hand over the drugs when he met the pair.

The next day he was shot at point blank range up to 13 times Daly Thompson Way, in Kennington.

He was shot in the face, stomach, back, arms and legs after being ambushed by two men at the door of a friend's house.

His face had to be rebuilt following the shooting and he has been left paralysed from the waist down.

Officers are still hunting for Sutton. The 26-year-old, formerly from Streatham, is a white man, of medium build with dark hair which is usually cut short. He has blue eyes and wears an earring in his left ear He is also known to frequent Lambeth and Croydon.

Detective Sergeant Paul Chapman from Operation Trafalgar, leading the investigation said: "I believe Shaun Sutton has access to firearms and is a highly dangerous man and anyone who sees Sutton should not approach him but dial 999 immediately."
