A man was jailed yesterday for killing a man with a metal pole outside KFC in Brixton last year.

Monclair Bartley, 26, was sentenced to nine years for the manslaughter of Alper Pasha, 45, in Brixton Road.

After an argument between two groups, Bartley chased the victim across the road and struck him with a pole grabbed from the back of a plumber's van.

He was knocked unconscious and taken to hospital where he died four days later in May 2011.

A post mortem examination gave the cause of death as multiple organ failure and pneumonia resulting from a serious head injury.

Bartley, of Cowley Road, Stockwell, was arrested in Brixton Hill a few days later and charged with murder.

The jury at the Old Bailey found him not guilty of murder, but guilty of manslaughter.

Detective Chief Inspector Mandy Hargreaves said: "This was a senseless killing that escalated from an argument between these men.

"Bartley decided to arm himself with a weapon and deliver a fatal blow to Alper who was trying to avoid conflict by leaving the scene."
