A 59-year-old woman who was knocked down on a busy high street just metres from her home has died.
Christine Newton, of Barcombe Avenue, was left with severe head injuries after being hit by a Honda motorcycle at the junction of Downton Avenue and Streatham Hill, at about 11.30am yesterday morning.
Two ambulance crews and an air ambulance were called to the scene and took her to the major trauma centre at King’s College hospital, where she was later pronounced dead by doctors.
No arrests have been made.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Anyone with information should call Detective Constable Ranjit Sekhon from the Metropolitan Police's Road Death Investigation Unit on 020 8941 9011.
