A road in Epsom was officially renamed this week in honour of Epsom Coaches chairman Roy Richmond MBE, who died earlier this year at the age of 85.

The northern half of Blenheim Road, where Epsom Coaches has operated from for the past 40 years , was officially renamed Roy Richmond Way on Wednesday (June 1), which fittingly would have been Roy’s 86th birthday.

The Southern half of the road will remain Blenheim Road.

Epsom Coaches also presented a cheque for £11,155.95 to Parkinson’s UK, raised through various fundraising events throughout 2010, in support of Roy who suffered with the disease for 20 years.

A respected member of the community, Mr Richmond and his wife Nancy founded the Butterfly Appeal in 1991 helping to raise funds for the Macmillan Butterfly Cancer centre which opened at Epsom Hospital in 2001.

Epsom Coaches' commercial director, Steve Whiteway, said: "This is a fitting memorial to Roy, particularly as the road leads to the firm he built up over 64 years.

"The changes to the road layout have also been a great success, benefitting users of the transfer station and our neighbours, a true example of business working with the authorities to achieve a better environment."
