A major collection celebrating the work of renowned Kingston photojournalist Stuart Heydinger has opened at Kingston Museum.

The exhibition, a collaboration between the museum and the Landesmuseum in Oldenburg, was opened by Mayor of Kingston Councillor David Berry on Friday.

It includes 40 groundbreaking images of iconic characters including Sir Edmund Hillary, Sir Winston Churchill and American President John F Kennedy.

During his 60 year career, Heydinger’s work has appeared in newspapers including The Times, Daily Telegraph and the Observer.

Heydinger attended the opening at the Wheatfield Way museum and was interviewed in front of an audience, including members of the German embassy and representatives from Kingston’s twin town Oldenburg, by former editor-in-chief of the Telegraph and Kingston resident John Bryant.

Peta Cook, curator at Kingston Museum, said: “We are thrilled to have Stuart back here in the town of his birth and delighted that he has placed his inspiring works in the public domain.”

Just a Moment: photographs by Stuart Heydinger will run until January 10, 2009.

Admission is £1 for adults and free for children.
