A woman had to be cut out of her car after being involved in a three vehicle pile up in New Malden this lunchtime.
The accident brought severe delays to traffic around the Fountain roundabout, where the two cars and a pick-up truck collided.
The driver of one of the cars, a woman believed to be in her 40s, had a history of back problems and was in such pain firefighters removed her car's roof to get her out safely.
She was taken to Kingston Hospital by ambulance. The female driver of the other car and her young daughter were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Fire crews from New Malden, Wimbledon and Surbiton were called to the scene at 12.30pm. The road was clear by 1.15pm but a back log of traffic remained.
A witness who works nearby said: "It's always happening. I see an accident along here almost every week. There's just too much traffic around here.
"It was a very loud crash. The woman in the middle was in agony. It's a shame it has lost is roof because it’s a nice car, but I suppose now it's a convertible.
"I feel sorry for the truck driver behind. He looked so bewildered."
