A youth who sprayed what is believed to be CS spray into a crowd of passengers on a tram is being hunted by British Transport Police.

The incident occurred just after 3.30pm on Wednesday, October 8, at Phipps Bridge.

BTP Sergeant Shawn Taylor said: “The carriage was very crowded with school students, shoppers and young children when there was an altercation between a group of youths.

“During the fracas it appears that one of the youths sprayed a substance, which was believed to be CS, in the crowded carriage.

“Several passengers were overcome by the substance and were treated by London Ambulance Service at the scene.”

Police have released CCTV of a young male they would like to speak with in connection with the incident.

Sgt Taylor said: "The youth was seen talking to several other youths on the tram and we would appeal for those individuals to contact police as well.”

He is described as a black male, about 6ft, with black, cropped hair. He was aged 16 to 18, had a proportionate build and was wearing all black with a white t-shirt under his top.

Anyone who can identify the male in the CCTV should call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 quoting background log B5 of 16/10/2008.

Someone actually spray CS gas into a pub I was in a couple of years ago and I have to say I thought I was going to choke to death. Let's hope he gets caught before he does it again. An Asthma sufferer may not survive. What an idiot.

Yet again, ordinary members of the travelling public are hospitalised due to morons playing out their gangsta roles!! sick!! of course our wonderful politicians don't ever get caught up in this because they hardly ever use public transport unless it's for some phoney publicity stunt.

Scoffer, things will soon be safe to travel again because Alan Dalton has been recruited by Croydon Council to oversee the initiatives being rolled out as part of the Safe for All operation.

Personally the little shít who sprayed CS should have his legs realigned.
